I've learned that edible favors are the best, so I'm considering doing tea as one favor, and possibly (I say this with much reservation) a candy buffet. I ordered a small tin of raspberry tea and it's absolutely divine. I'm a tea lover (Teavana is my favorite), so it wouldn't be a surprise for this to be our favor. I have a few friends that are loyal tea drinkers as well so I know they would be happy. For the bulk though, I imagine they aren't too keen on tea, so it's still up in the air.
As for a candy buffet, I like the creativity involved and it could look uber cool. My only reservation is that it's been done too many times and it's sort of fad now. (Think: photo strip save-the-dates) I love the idea, but once it becomes a "trend," I'm very hesitant to follow suit.

(Above photos from fabulous Rebecca Thuss)Sunday, we are taking our engagement photos! I'm so nervous!!!!

I agree. Candy buffets are a little overdone.
Perhaps a chocolate buffet or a cookie buffet if you really have your heart set on it.
I love tea and I was considering that as a favor. As with an favor some people will like it and some won't. If you like it go for it!
If there is any extra you'll have plenty for yourself!
We had tea as favors! I ordered bags and some teas I love in bulk, then filled them and tied them with ribbon. I put a tag on each one with the name of the tea, the date and a saying like 'Steeped in Love' or 'Brewed to Perfection'!
I'll send pictures ASAP!
Have you considered a tea buffet? I'm not completely sure of the logistics of this one, but I have seen coffee/tea shops where they let you bag and mix your own flavours. If not to many guests are keen on tea, you could also offer coffee beans or grounds.
hmm, given the name of your blog, i would say, does the idea of a candy buffet excite you? if it does, do it. thats what matters, not if its trendy or not. im sure you've worn one or two fashion trends into on into the "outdated" timeframe (we all have...or am i the only one! :) ) so whats the big deal if you do a known outdated wedding trend?
i'm much more of a tea buffet fan than a candy buffet fan (and i don't even drink tea).
I agree with you 100% on being wary of doing things that are "trendy". I think the buffet idea is a great idea, it is just a matter of personalizing it.
The tea buffet is a great idea, and may even encourage some who have not previously given tea a try to give it a chance. I am considering a flavored popcorn buffet. Not a kettle corn, but chocolate covered popcorn, cheese popcorn, etc.
I think that there are all kinds of buffets that you could do that your guests would get really excited about
I don't care how trendy dessert buffets are I am having one! We are actually doing so instead of spending a bajillion on a fancy cake. We will have a modest cake but then a spread of chocolates, truffles, fruit tarts, you name it! I hope it will be a hit and even though it seems like a trend I know the guests won't mind!! You could even order extra and have bags/boxes available for take home treats, I can't think of anyone who would argue with that, trend or no trend.
Love the idea of tea as favors and a tea buffet sounds fun!
I also considered the idea of a candy buffet, but feared it might be 'overdone' at this point. How about a popcorn buffet? Or some other food item that's unique to your location? For example, we're getting married at the Jersey Shore, so we're including salt water taffy. If you do go with the buffet idea, check this out... http://mybigfatitalianwedding.blogspot.com/2008/01/popcorn.html
Love your blog by the way! :)
